Their Lunches - Madison Square Park, aes.25

delayed.

Tags 26-31

I've begun training for this year's NaNoWriMo by sitting down to spend more time writing.

It's been a long long time. Thought I'd warm up with new some tags...

Here Where - Vinegar Hill, aes.22

I was here.
Where were you?

aes.22
May, 28, 2010, 10 pm
Tied on to a rosebush growing up a chainlink fence beside an enclosed wooden bulletin board for the Vinegar Hill community, Water St. (VH is just north of Dumbo on the waterfront in Brooklyn.)

Pic taken at night by Cousin Jason.

Update: Brush Your - Water St, aes. 20

Really surprised but happy this one's still hanging a full week later. It's a little abraded on the bottom corners, but otherwise in great shape. I don't think I've ever seen one still extant a full week later.

This location on Water St. in Dumbo is the block-long exterior of a majestic abandoned warehouse building, and a popular site for street art and graffiti. It's on the same block as Jacques Torres, Almondine, and St. Ann's Warehouse.

[See original post]

Update: Been Anyone - Water St. aes.24

One week later, all that's left of the tag I tied on a bench outside of Almondine is a loose loop of string.

Been Anyone - bench outside Almondine, aes.24

She could have been
anyone, but today
she was Marie.

Tied to the bench outside my favorite bakery in the world.

Don't Notice - Manhattan Bridge Archway, aes.21

Most people
don't notice
the details.

aes.21
May 23, 2010 (11:54pm)
Tagged while frolicking through Dumbo with Mia and friends. It was dark and my phone's camera doesn't do so well in low light. Need to go back and see if still there...

Brush Your - Water St, aes.20

Brush your teeth
with that intention.

aes.20
May 23, 2010 (midnight)
This block runs along an abandoned warehouse covered with street art and graffiti. This is a line mentioned during a yoga retreat I attended last month.

Tipped Over - Mia at Superfine, aes.23

It just tipped over,
it wasn't my fault.

aes.23
Mia is taking this one to L.A.
It'll be the first non-NYC tag. She promises to send a picture once it's up...

Tags 20-25

It has been two months since I last tagged. Now I'm ready to hit the streets again.

On the backs of this batch I wrote in pencil the url for this blog. Wasn't going to do that, but at the same time I want those who maybe find a tag and think it's at all interesting to be able to connect to the larger project.

In the process of setting myself up so I can make this an entirely mobile blog (i.e., post only by smartphone). We'll see how it goes.

Hand Surfing - Brooklyn Bridge, aes.18

Hand-surfing the wind
out the backseat
window.

aes.18
There are so many good places to tie on tags along the bridge, but without someone to watch my back and with soooo many people around I was too nervous.

A Loop - Brooklyn Heights Promenade, aes.15

All that remained
was a loop
of string.

aes.15
That's Manhattan in the distance at left, the lovely lighted promenade at right, and the lights of the Brooklyn Bridge in between.

Clandestine operations against lower Manhattan backdrop.

Going Back - Madison Square Park, aes.17

Over lunch
she decided
she wasn't
going back.

aes.17

Tied onto a sun-facing park bench during the first workday outdoor lunch of the year. (And then I went back to work; the tags are fiction.)

March 6 Tags - Manhattan Bridge, aes.12, 16, & 19

Luckily she'd
hidden a spare
set of keys.

Tag 12
Manhattan Bridge, easterly span (Brooklyn side)

Would you rather
be cozy or
soaring in flight?

aes.19

The wind caused it to immediately become tangled in the fencing.

Is it possibly
somehow better
this way?

aes.12

Peace.

You Fall - Brooklyn Heights Promenade, aes.14

What do I have to do
to make you
fall in love
with me?

aes.14

I checked the fountain. It is turned off for the winter.

On my walk along the promenade, I saw this knit tag. It was cloudy out, so the colors don't appear as vibrant as they are. Don't know who the tagger is, but was cool to see. (Knit tags are one of my inspirations.)

P.S.
Spring is coming!!!

Tags 14-19

(The match between the tag's phrase and the location choice is not arbitrary, as I originally thought it would be. Some tags just belong in particular spaces, and don't belong in others. I'm not sure why I sense that, but I'm going with it.)

Valentine's Day Tags - Manhattan Bridge Archway, aes.7, 8, 9, & 10

It starts with
a little push.

aes.7
---------

It is said that an
aesthetic experience
lasts about as long as
one notices the scent of a
freshly-peeled orange.

aes.8
---------

Would you like
to dance?

aes.9
---------

Splitting a double-
stick popsicle with
your best friend.
Grape-flavored.

aes.10

I "bombed" this beautiful space in the archway under the Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo on Saturday, tying on four tags. (Normally I only do one a day, but maybe with Valentine's Day in the air I was feeling more expansive.)

By Sunday morning, only one tag was left.

The lonesome string, decoupled from its tag. I think this was the grape popsicle one. The other two were gone too. Guess someone liked them!

Tags 7-12

(It's ok if people take them. It's ok if they blow away. It's ok if they land in a puddle. I won't disturb them if I encounter them again.)

To Hear - Bway/Lafayette F Platform, aes.4

It's so good to
hear your voice.

aes.4

Waited for 2 days for the right spot to present itself at the right time.

I slotted it inside an empty subway map frame mounted on a column toward the back of the Brooklyn-bound side. Was rush hour and hard to feel inconspicuous.

(Is it confusing that I'm not putting out the tags in order?)

The Ride - Plymouth St, aes.6

The ride back home
always seemed faster
than the ride to.

aes.6

[no photo]

Tied on in same place as Tag #3 (aes.5).
The first one got nabbed, but the string was still there.
Might become a recurring spot.

Catching Her - Dumbo, aes.5

Finally catching
her eye.

aes.5
January 3, 2010 (noon)
Tied on at high noon.
Spun and flapped in the wind.
First tag in Dumbo.

(They don't have to be hung in order. This is Tag #3, but it's aes.5.)

How Much - Madison Square Park, aes.1

How much is
a memory?

aes.1

Tied onto arm of park bench, Jan 19, 8:50am. The above photograph was taken the following morning -- the tag was still there.

On Jan 21, saw only the string on the bench arm -- the tag was gone.

VERY FIRST TAG!

Egg Blue - Madison Square Park, aes.2

She wanted to
paint it robin's-
egg blue.

Moments after slipping onto the slat of the bench.

Taken in the afternoon.
